One year down, forever to go!

Well, it’s the start of another week! I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed mine…

We took a mini vacay to Panama City {about 2 hours from Pensacola} with some of our good friends. Unfortunately, we didn’t take many pictures, {it rained the entire time} but the memories we made are some that I will never forget! We had a blast. I’m so thankful that God has placed some amazing friends into our lives.

My husband and I celebrated our one year anniversary yesterday {August 18th}. Here’s a little recap of our day :)

Our day started in Panama City, of course. I woke up next to my loving husband with a dozen of beautiful roses! {One rose for each month we’ve been married}. We ate breakfast with our friends, and then they were headed back to Pensacola. Michael and I stuck around PC for a little longer. The rain cleared for about an hour, so we hit up the beach before heading home. I absolutely love the beaches in Panama City. Something about them is better than the ones in Pensacola. Or maybe I’m just partial because I lived here for 4 years growing up!

As you can see from the beach photo, the weather was not lookin good. Once it started to sprinkle, we were out of there! Only to face a down pour of rain the whole way home. We both had the closest experience to a lightening bolt while in the car. It was huge and cracked down literally right in front of us. {Scary for me, but Michael thought it was cool of course}.

Anyways, so about halfway in between PCB and Pensacola is a little town called Santa Rosa Beach… also known as where we got married. Our venue– Bentley’s on the Bay, is conveniently located off the highway so that we can pass by and reminisce about our special day. And since it IS our anniversary.. why not stop?!  We ate lunch off 30A at Bud and Alley’s Pizza bar {after all, it is our anniversary, so we are allowed to splurge on our favorite food}. It was pouring down rain and we got soaked in the process, but it was fun! Across the street from where we ate lunch is Crush Wine Bar. This was where our rehearsal dinner took place, one year ago =) Of course we had to take a picture in front of it! I really wanted to take a picture at our wedding venue where we exchanged our vows, however it was pouring. We did manage to take one photo!

Once we got home, we showered, popped a bottle of champagne, and took a couple of photos before heading out to dinner. I made this chalk board sign from the same chalkboard our ring bearer had around his neck at our wedding ;) check out the before and after!

All it took was a little chalk board spray paint! I bought the flowers from hobby lobby and hot glued them on! The chalkboard is also from hobby lobby. I painted the edges white with acrylic paint. Super simple, cheap, and cute eh?!  {I think my nephew is the real cutie though} =)

We had reservations for 7 at the Melting Pot. Fondue is fun & delicious! It was a fabulous dinner. Unfortunately my phone died, so I only got a couple of photos in the beginning.

We had a little bit of a detour on the way home. As we were driving along 110, a truck passed {and almost hit} us going 100 mph. Up ahead a moment later, he side swiped/crashed into the side wall of the interstate. Thank goodness there was no other traffic out besides us at the time. Michael started following him and immediately called 911. The guy got off at the next exit, was swerving all over the place, ran multiple red lights, and just when we caught up with him to get the tag # for the police, he had already crashed into 3 other cars at the next intersection. Michael pulled over and was a witness. I’m so thankful God was looking out for us on that highway. Michael said he was close to hitting us from behind… could you imagine with him going 100 mph?! I was freaking out a little. I realized I have one heck of a husband though, he’s so brave and doesn’t even realize it. Love that man!! Here’s a pic of the accident. Only 1 person was sent to the hospital with minor injuries. We found the  drunk driver on mug shots this morning, charged with DUI and traffic violations. No bueno…

Back to our anniversary… we got home later than planned.  After eating chocolate fondue at dinner… the year old wedding cake did not sound very appealing. But we had to carry out tradition and at least taste it. So we did :) The icing was like eating straight sugar. The cake part wasn’t bad though. We’re going for round 2 tonight… hopefully it will be a better experience!

We didn’t have time to watch our wedding video either. Lifehouse wedding films was our videographer and created an amazing DVD of our entire wedding day. Here are a couple of the trailers~ These videos are great at capturing the highlights of our big day!

Last but not least, our anniversary gifts! The best gift of all is marriage and the love that we share. However, diamond earrings and a tool chest are great additions! :)

We had a great {one year} anniversary. Excited for the years to come & what God has in store for our marriage!

Thank you for following the healthy life of a military wife! See you next time :)

Downtown Pensacola

Pensacola, Florida has been my home for 10 months now. We just found out recently that my husband will be flying in the FA-18 hornet. Therefore after he receives his wings in August/September, we will be moving to San Diego, California and Miramar MCAS {Marine Corps Air Station} will be our new duty station, for at least 1 year.

While I am super pumped about California {especially since I’ve never been West of TX}, I am also partial to the East coast and will miss it very much {you can take the girl out of the country, but can’t take the country out of the girl}. SO, that leads me to my post. In the military they say as soon as you know your way around town, then it’s time to move again! Well, I have now found that statement to be true.

Now that I know we’ll soon be moving, I am soaking up Pensacola and exploring like never before! So my husband comes home from work yesterday and asks me out on a date {yes that still happens for married people} to The Fish House because it is 1/2 price sushi night aka the best thing ever! So in return, I asked him to bring his camera because I plan to do some exploring after dinner in downtown Pensacola.

I don’t know about you, but when I travel to a place I’ve never been before, the first thing I do is google places to see and most importantly– the best restaurants. Since I finally know my way around town, I’m going to put the knowledge to good use and share with you today the infamous downtown Pensacola. Whether you are coming on vacation or moving to Pensacola, I encourage you to visit the downtown area and hope that this gives you some good ideas! {PS- I’m already searching restaurants, bakeries, dog parks-another story, and places to go in San Diego ;) just something to look forward to!}

Here we go, my top 10 list of places to go in Downtown Pensacola. This list is not exhaustive by any means, however they are the hot spots on my agenda. And while you’re exploring, I’ve decided to provide you with some appropriate music. So enjoy!!

The Fish House— Restaurant & Marina. This place reminds me of my childhood, growing up on a boat in Panama City at the Lighthouse Marina & Restaurant. The outside deck has a bar with usually a local band to play at night.  Tuesday is 1/2 price sushi night and it is amazing! Good drinks– cocktail hour is from 4-6pm. I also believe they have a Ladies Night on Wednesday’s with $3 cocktails. {This is a candidate location for Michael’s winging celebration}

World of Beer— also known as WOB. Our favorite bar, opened in 2012, every beer in the house, outside patio {where we spent our 2013 New Year}, great bands and dancing on the weekends, fun atmosphere & night life, a must go!

WOB

Tin Cow— delicious restaurant, build your own burger, bison, red velvet milkshake {to die for}, not healthy, but oh SO good!

the-tin-cow-restaurant

Belle Ame‘– Live, Love, & Lather at this bath and body boutique! Amazing. In-store homemade products. International shipping. Gift cards. Inspirational. I could go on… picked up this bar of soap yesterday {fragrance- life’s a beach} can’t wait to use it! Made partially with oatmeal.. ahh :)

lather

HopJacks— Pizza Kitchen & Taproom, fun place to go with a group, great food, beer, pizza, & french fries to die for… cooked in duck grease {sounds gross, but SO good, not healthy} :/

The Leisure Club— coffee bar & restaurant, picturesque coffee shop, guitar playing/singing, soothing. Haven’t tried their food, but the coffee and gelato ice cream was delicious! Great place to go for dessert and to relax.

Leisure Club

Helen Back— like “Hell & Back” but the name is misleading.. it’s a cool place for night life, winging parties, and big sports bar. Not a huge fan of their food, although I hear the pizza is pretty good. It has 2 stories and an outdoor patio up top which makes a pretty view and is nice at night. Like I said, it’s a popular winging celebration location so more fun on Friday nights for the military crowd. Also, every Monday here is Military Night!

Seville Quarter— or as we call it, “the boom boom room” is a building by itself but divided into 4 rooms {hence the name ‘quarter’}. You’ve got a room with a piano bar, live band and pool tables, a DJ night club {hence the boom boom}, and a big bar when you first walk in to the right. It’s the top party place in Pensacola. Cover charges start at $5 and can go up depending on the night. We’ve only gone on special nights {after the Marine Corps Birthday Ball and my college graduation day}.

Seville Quarter

Dog House Deli— if you’re looking for a good hotdog, they’ve got it and will make it any way you want it! Also a great place to go after a late night downtown. “Fill your belly with dog house deli”

Some other things to look into and that I might so happen to post about in the future as well…

Attending a Pensacola Blue Wahoos MILB game at the new stadium {walking distance from downtown}.

Gallery Night— held once a month in downtown Pensacola, they close off the streets for an array of art, cuisine, & music. Check the website for dates. It’s usually on Friday nights.

The Palafox Market held every Saturday morning in downtown Pensacola. Visit the vendors, buy some fresh vegetables and creative keepsakes!

Wow, I just realized how much there is to do in Pensacola! We haven’t even gotten to Pensacola Beach {the main attraction} yet– which I’ll have to write about next time! Lastly, I want to share some of the beautiful architecture. For a less expensive & care-free time, you can always stroll the streets to enjoy the scenery like we did. It was fun to just talk and play around town. My husband also had the opportunity to take some pretty pictures and try out his new lens. {Looking at these pictures, I’ve realized that I need some modeling tips… help!} Hope ya’ll enjoyed anyway and that I created an urge within you to book your next vacay to Pensacola :) and if not, well then stay tuned for my post later on the beautiful beaches! Good night~ Bre
